‘The Max is a close relative of the Axel.
When designing the Max, I had the luxurious seats of the Orient Express in mind. It had to be a sofa with the same monumental allure as the benches in that famous train. I designed the seat in a classic style: the somewhat voluminous look makes you want to sit down and snuggle up against the cushions. At the same time, the slender armrests create an elegant look. I lowered the bottom of the seat, making the sofa seem to float in the room.’

Gijs Papavoine started with Montis in 1976 at the product development department. Gijs was employed as a Product Manager at Montis until 1990. In this capacity, he was jointly responsible for Montis’ design philosophy. In 1990, Gijs was promoted to dedicated designer of Montis. His designs are powerful because of their simplicity. Simple basic shapes with refined elegant lines that radiate comfort characterize his handwriting.
