After finishing his liberal arts degree in New York City, Max Lipsey (Santa Barbara, 1983) moved to the Netherlands, where he graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2007. This is also where he opened his own atelier only a year later.
Before he starts the design process, Max familiarizes himself with the material. Like any inquisitive craftsman, he feels, bends, takes apart and experiments, until he knows the material through and through. In addition to creating his own designs, he is often approached by clients for custom interior or furniture projects. ‛For custom pieces, I explore how an object enters into a dialogue with its environment. ’
